Suleiman Oko-ogua is an Associate in Bailey & Wyant, PLLC’s Charleston Office.  Suleiman is originally from Nigeria, West Africa and moved to the United States in 1997 to attend College. He graduated from Berea College in 2001, with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Biology. At Berea, he was actively involved in human rights awareness and travelled extensively around Eastern and Western Europe, where he conducted several independent projects on international human rights, conflict resolution and diplomacy. He then graduated from the University of Kentucky College of Law in 2004. While in law school, he was a Senior Staff Member of the Kentucky Journal of Equine, Agriculture and Natural Resources (formerly Journal of Natural Resources and Environmental Law).
Prior to joining Bailey & Wyant, Suleiman clerked for a Kentucky State Judge. He also spent about three years as a prosecutor and as a private attorney in Kentucky. As a prosecutor, he prosecuted criminal, abuse, neglect and child support cases on behalf of the Commonwealth of Kentucky. As a private attorney, he was involved in custody, personal injury, civil rights and employment law cases. Recently, Suleiman was associated with a defense firm in Huntington, West Virginia, where he defended major railroad companies in various tort actions. He also defended several large medical device companies in products liability cases and a regional restaurant chain in premises liability cases.
Suleiman is admitted to practice law before the Kentucky Supreme Court, Maryland Court of Appeals (inactive) and West Virginia Supreme Court of Appeals. He is also admitted to practice law before the United States District Court, Eastern District of Kentucky, United States District Court, Southern District of West Virginia, and the United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit.

Recent News

[05/18/12]  Thomas E. Buck and Bruce M. Clark have won the case of Yanchak v. Lindh and Youth Services System, Inc. This matter, which was pending in the United States District Court for the Northern District of West Virginia, sought to establish liability against the defendant Youth Services System, Inc., under the doctrines of employer liablilty and respondeat superior. Mr. Buck and Mr. Clark defended Youth Services Systems, Inc., in this matter and were victorious on behalf of their clients.

[05/07/12] Bailey & Wyant would like to welcome our newest associate attorney, Dawn George, to the Firm. Ms. George is a 2007 graduate of the West Virginia University College of Law.

[04/20/12] David Mincer and John Fuller gave a presentation at Glade Springs on Insurance Portfolios and Unemployment Compensation.

[04/19/12] Billie Jo Streyle won a summary judgment for a State correctional facility on all claims that were alleged by the Plaintiffs against the correctional facility. The Court granted summary judgment on the Plaintiff's claims for cruel and unusual punishment, pursuant to the United States Constitution and West Virginia Constitution. The Court also granted summary judgment on a loss of consortium claim alleged by the Plaintiffs. The Court found there was no genuine issue of material fact regarding any claims alleged by the Plaintiffs and dismissed the case in its entirety.
